The dogs of this race are true athletes. Therefore, they are treated with the utmost care and respect. At checkpoints the dogs are inspected by the veterinarians. If a vet says a dog is done then the dog is done. The mushers also check their dogs along the trail. They need to know their team well. They check their paws, ears, etc. If a dog is tired and needs a break he/she will be placed in the sled bag ,which is attached to the sled, and have the opportunity to rest. Dogs who are injured and can no longer compete stay in the sled bag until the next checkpoint. At that checkpoint the dog is left in the care of volunteers. The dog is flown to Anchorage where he/she is cared for and awaits for his team to finish the race.

I had to share this next picture. It has nothing to do with the Iditarod. Carl and some of our friends are working on a car in the garage tonight. We decided to have dinner beforehand, and they're cooking!!!
